Vykee Gordon

Vykee Gordon has been a soloist with The Band of the California Battalion since its founding. She is the wife of Sheldon Gordon, E flat Cornet and the proud mother of Aaron Gordon, E flat Tuba.

Vykee received a BA degree in music from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles.  She pursued elementary education and earned a life multiple subject teaching credential. She taught for several years as a classroom teacher then changed her focus to teaching music full time with Los Angeles Unified School District.

Vykee's love of music and the arts was instilled in her at an early age. Her passion for music and the arts was nurtured and enriched as part of her education in the Los Angeles public schools. She further developed as a soprano soloist while attending Mount Hollywood Congregational Church. As she states, “Singing at the annual church youth concerts was always hard work and a lot of fun.  Who would have believed that the seventeen year old trumpet player, Sheldon Gordon, would one day be my husband”? Vykee has performed with many groups over the years and has given numerous recitals.

When Vykee is not teaching or singing with the band, she enjoys traveling, reading, biking, knitting, playing piano, and accompanying her husband on his many adventures.  She loves being a member of this feisty and talented Civil War band of men. She reminds us, “Let us also remember the beautiful and supportive band wives and families. Huzzah”!
